't Heerenlogement is an old, rural hotel in the centre of Harlingen, located on the water Franekereind. The hotel used to function as a stamp station for the famous Frisian "11-city skating race". The hotel has a long history: Dutch writer Jacob van Lennep stayed here in 1823, and in his diary, which was later published, he wrote how much he enjoyed his stay. The harbour city of Harlingen has many old monuments. It also has cosy cafes and restaurants, gallery's and two museums with
expositions of Frisian painters. The beautiful 'Wadden' (the shallow sand flats) are within walking distance. The ferry for Terschelling and Vlieland leaves every day and this makes Harlingen an ideal spot to combine a stay on the mainland with a stay on one of these islands.
